Player Insurance

Player Insurance
We as an association believe it is vital that all players should be covered when it comes to injury and the cost of relevant treatment.
Therefore we have scoped the market and secured a policy through our insurance partners that protects players when it comes to both short term and long term injuries.
Surgeries and MRI costs are high and can sometimes be difficult for a club or player to afford.
Our policy offers affordable monthly rates for injury protection and help give clubs and players peace of mind
- Professional & Amateur Injury Policy; For all players on Pro and Amateur Contracts playing full time or part time for surgeries, scans, injections and physio up to £9k
Our policy covers players for Personal Injury and Medical Expenses and includes £100 per week salary contribution when unable to work.
If you are a club or player wishing to enquire you can click here to register for a direct quote or contact info@pfani.com and we will provide full details.
We also understand that when it comes to recovery players need treatment ASAP. Therefore we have negotiated preferential timeframes for surgeries and scans with two renowned private hospitals – Ulster Clinic and Kingsbridge and with Sports Medicine NI for consultations and physio.
It is important to get you treated as quickly as possible and a speedy recovery period is vital to your future career.
Clubs and players can pay the insurance premium monthly.
***Players and clubs should be aware that the cost of scans and surgery are deemed by the medical providers as “self funded” This means that if the insurer deems the injury as not something they can cover, then the cost of any medical procedures must be covered by the player or their club. The insurance covers injuries caused by an event, (sudden, unforeseen and identifiable occurences) “Wear and tear” injuries are not likely to be covered.
As with all insurance policies it is not guaranteed that the policy will pay out and we recommend contacting the insurer or the PFA in the first instance to gain an understanding on whether the injury is typically covered.***

Women’s Premiership Insurance partnership
We are delighted to announce an exclusive partnership with Kingsbridge Medical for all Women’s Premiership players.
PFA Northern Ireland is proud to announce a new partnership with Kingsbridge Private Hospital Group, that represents a significant step forward in the protection and welfare of players competing in the NIFL Women’s Premiership, ensuring that all registered players are covered with enhanced medical support and access to professional healthcare services, as the new season gets underway.
PFA NI CEO Michael Carvill emphasised the importance of this development in safeguarding players:
“This partnership is particularly timely in terms of protecting our female players with research from FIFPRO and Leeds Beckett University highlighting the increased risk of ACL injuries in the women’s game. It’s critical that we respond with meaningful action.
“By working with Kingsbridge, we are taking another important step to improve player welfare and safety, while also supporting performance through enhanced medical provision and greater professionalism within the game.”
Carvill also highlighted the wider impact on clubs and the sustainability of the women’s game:
“Clubs are also carrying significant risk when players are not adequately insured. The financial burden associated with serious injuries can be a major factor, and without proper cover, players may be forced to step away from the game or retire early due to costs. This partnership helps protect not only players, but also clubs, ensuring the long-term stability and growth of the women’s game.”
This initiative reflects PFA Northern Ireland’s ongoing commitment to raising standards across women’s football and ensuring players are properly supported both on and off the pitch.
Announcing the new collaboration, Fiona Dowds, Head of Sales & Business Development at Kingsbridge Private Hospital Group said:
“Kingsbridge are delighted to be partnering with PFA Northern Ireland to support players in the NIFL Women’s Premiership, showing our strong commitment to women’s health, player welfare, and clinical excellence across all levels of sport.
“We know how demanding the game can be, and how important it is for players to get the right care when they need it. Through this partnership, players will benefit from fast access to diagnostics, consultant appointments, and surgical treatment if required, all through a clear and straightforward pathway.
“Kingsbridge is already trusted by elite athletes, teams, and champions across a range of sports, and we are pleased to offer that same level of expertise and care to the women’s game here in Northern Ireland. By working alongside PFA Northern Ireland, we can help to continue to raise standards, protect players, and support the continued growth and professionalism of women’s football.”
PFA Northern Ireland would also like to thank All Sport Insurance for their continued support in helping make this partnership possible and for their ongoing commitment to protecting our members.
With the NIFL Women’s Premiership season now commencing, the partnership ensures that players will benefit immediately from improved medical coverage and care throughout the campaign.
